"I'm very excited for this engine! My extensive research on crate/performance engines lead me to Prestige and I'm confident I won't be disappointed." - Kelly K.
If you follow us at all you know we do a TON of stack injection setup engine builds. This particular setup is from Jim Inglese with the old school look but still controlled by the modern day benefits of Holley Multi Port EFI. 347 cubic inches based on an OEM 302 with 4.030" bore and 3.400" stroke. It features a cast steel Eagle crankshaft with 5140 forged steel I-Beam rods from Eagle as well. The pistons are custom made for us from DSS Racing and are 4032 forged aluminum with a 5cc valve relief. Prestige Motorsports aluminum as-cast 180cc heads with our own custom grind hydraulic roller cam, billet aluminum full roller rockers and a Moroso rear sump oil pan. This setup was made drop-in-ready for Kelly with the March Performance serpentine system he chose for his build. Should be hitting the dyno any time now!
Some things we do on each and every build here at Prestige that you might not realize:
- Every bore, housing, bearing and piston clearance measured multiple times and documented in build sheets.
- Every piston ring filled and set to specific end gap and documented in build sheet.
- Every camshaft degreed here and documented in build sheets.
- Check every set of cylinder heads to verify quality and documented on build sheets.
- Tape bridge seals for silicone on gaskets.
- Plug wires custom fit to length and loomed.
- Dyno test with your carb or EFI system to quality check them with what you are actually going to be running.
"I did quite a bit of research on line, reviews, etc," explained Kelly. "Also, I found your YouTube videos very informative and it was helpful to get an idea of what sort of shop y'all are...not too big and not too small. The clincher, though, was the article in Hot Rod magazine. That sealed the deal for me. Oh, and as for the process, been great so far, from quotes to build."
"I picked this FFR Mk. III roadster up last October after I had wrecked my Mk. II," he continued. "As they're relatively tough to come across in these parts, I happened on this one and picked it up. Very clean build from 2007 with 6200 miles on it. The engine was very straight forward: Ford 302 with Edelbrock 1406 4 barrel carburetor, Edelbrock Performance 289 manifold and Edelbrock E Street cylinder heads. All very lower end stuff for this sort of car and I knew eventually I would drop in something with a bit more performance. In fact, I had just been speaking with Jim Inglese about an 8 stack Weber unit for this engine when the number 8 piston shook loose and smashed it's way through the cylinder head. So, it seemed, this was my opportunity to get the engine I really wanted for this car."
It has been great to get to know Kelly a little bit during the engine building process here and we can't wait to follow along with his build when he receives the engine. Keep in touch, Kelly!
